During his book reading, he shared his first experience wearing women’s clothing in public in his early 20s. He identified as a man while also enjoying wearing feminine clothing from a young age. In this 1999 standup special he spoke openly about his identity as a transvestite. One of the first things you’ll notice about Izzard on screen or on stage is his clothing choice. I have admired his wit and his message from the first moment I saw him perform Dress to Kill. I learned a lot about this man, more than I could ever gather from the jokes he tells on stage or the acting rolls he plays. He recalled how he started as a street entertainer and how he is running marathons (27 marathons in 27 days). It was interesting to see Izzard this way, sharing his personal experiences: from the difficult death of his mother at a young age to life at a boarding school and finding gum to chew in bushes (saving one piece for as long as he could, because buying gum was too expensive for him). He ended with questions from the audience. The book tour event featured readings from the book, a slide show presentation filled with still shots of baby Izzard up to the present day, videos, and of course, some stand up comedy.

This book is a memoir of love, death, and jazz chickens -that’s the subtitle, after all. On October 1, 2017, I was fortunate enough to score a 10th row center seat to his book tour for Believe Me. And if his appearance wasn’t enough to kill you, the laughter he caused should be. It is appropriately named as Izzard looked wonderful in his pants suit and flawlessly done make up. It feels a lot like the Berenstein Bears phenomenon.Įdit: What is the point of downvoting this? Just trying to see if someone shares my experience.I fell for Eddie Izzard within the first few minutes of his 1999 stand-up comedy special Dress to Kill. There was also a different DVD cover to the one there is now, though I can't quite remember what the "original" one was. I have no evidence for this by the way, though I've looked. In the version I remember, the pacing felt different from the version you can find on youtube now - there was more space between the jokes, it just seemed more relaxed, and funnier, and for the past few years I've felt it was a shame that that version seems to have disappeared. I had a tape of it in 2002 or so that I watched a lot as a kid, and I have no recollection of there being anything about San Francisco, which is where the version you can currently find on youtube takes place (and it's kind of a big deal, they do an intro about it and he jokes about SF at the beginning. I have the experience that Eddie Izzard's stand-up show Dress to Kill got switched out for another version. Your first violation will result in your post or comment being removed, with a warning. The Mandela Effect is a group of people realizing they remember something differently than is generally known to be fact - the most famous example of this would be the Berenstain/Berenstein bears.
